Books:
- Saltendialekten : En Grammatikk, by Olga Brekke (2000) - This book was very useful in explaining the grammar of the northern dialect of Salten in Norway. This was the first book I read in Norwegian, and although I tripped up on some vocabulary, it was very understandable and valuable to my research, especially regarding my research post on the dialect of Salten.
- Saltamålet : kort oversikt over lydverket, by Einar Skånlund (1933) - Likewise, this book was valuable in expanding my knowledge of phonology and establishing a skill set I could use to help me later in my research. The analytical and comprehensive knowledge from this book was used to help me in my understanding of other dialects.
- Norske dialekter. 1-3 : Innføring i almen norsk fonologi og dialektologi ; Fra indoeuropèisk til norske dialekter ; De viktigste målmerker og deres råderom, by Hallfrid Christiansen (1946) - This is a very useful and brief guide of the Norwegian Dialects, and their evolution from Old Norse. A vital source to my research and provides me a base for me to compare between the dialectal variation within the country.
- Senjen-Maalet : Lydverket i Hoveddrag, by Ragnvald Iversen (1913) - A comprehensive analysis of the traditional language in the area of Senja in Norway. Similarly to the Salten Grammar Guide, this was vital to my understanding of the dialectal variation in that area, and aided me in my research regarding it’s descent from traditional to general.
- Norsk Ordbog, by Ivar Aasen (1873) - The book which established Nynorsk, written by Ivar Aasen, is incredibly useful in beginning to understand how the written standard has been modified over time, and therefore useful to understanding the developments in the written standard’s evolution as a result.
- Er norsk det samme som dansk?, by Knud Knudsen (1862) - The book which established Riksmål/Bokmål as very similar to Danish is a perfect example of how different this written standard was from the dialects of the country at the beginning of it’s life.
- Den Nye Rettskrivning, by Språkrådet (1917) - This was the description of the 1917 Samnorsk Reform for both Nynorsk and Bokmål, which I used to help me display how the standards have evolved in my dissertation.
- Ny Rettskrivning, by Språkrådet (1938) - Similarly, this description was a Samnorsk Reform in 1938, which I used to help me analyse the evolution of each written standard.
